Problems getting into rooms.
«
on:
November 07, 2009, 01:49:48 AM »
I'm new to AA and have joined Rooks. I would like to join in on the training flights and tried this Wednesday but couldn't get the room to load. Every time I did it would time out saying "No response from server". I had both my windows firewall shut down and my Avast shut down, and even restarted my computer to make sure there were no "remnants" of the firewalls holding on.
Does anyone have any other ideas? I'm running Windows XP Home with SP2. I usually run with Windows Firewall off and Avast running. I have added the exceptions into Avast that I needed to for AA as well. Any help would be appreciated.

It's hard to say if you have the same issues as I do or not DG. I know it sometimes takes me up twelve attempts before the game will let me in. It has always been this way with this Toshiba Lap Top. My Generic Desk Top PC which is in storage at the present will usually get in on the first try. Strange things these computers are. Some days are good and some are not so good. If you have been into the game recently and had no problems getting in, then try to do a "System Restore" use the date and time closest to the last time you were able to get in. IF it works, then it is probably a system setting that has changed.

Tell me your internet connection setup
Cable/DSL?
Is there a router in the equation ?
Name and model of router ??
All of these can help with troubleshooting your problem.
This is most certainly a connection issue.Somewhere in your setup there is a block to the game server..
There are ports that need forwarded on some router while others will work with the game right out of the box.
Are you on a wireless home network setup ??
Ports to forward are here.

I'm sorry, I forgot to add all that. But I'm hooked up to Cable internet and my router is a Belkin (wireless, but we have it hard wired) Model: F5D7234-4.
I'm not sure on how to set up ports and stuff. I'm pretty much a plug and play or don't play at all guy!
But if you can give me some instructions, I should be able to do it.

OK.
Let's try this as a process of elimation.
Take the router out of the loop.
Unhook the wire that goes from the modem to the router and plug it directly to your computer input jack.
This will eliminate the router.
If you can play the game,,,then it's a router issue and we can then go from there.
I'll check that routers specs and see how to port forward with it in case we need to do that.
ALSO: That router is which version V1000,V3000,V4000 or V5000???

Okay, disconnected the router and got in two times immediately. So it's the router more than likely.
And it's a version 3000.
Here's the problem...
My girlfriend's computer is hooked up to said router and if she doesn't get her pogo when she gets home, we may both be in serious trouble!!!!
P.S. Thanks for your quick response btw.

OK problem partially solved...
Here's a link that will walk you through the port forwarding...

Hope this isn't too daunting:
The RED areas is what you will need to set
Air Attack Firewall Settings
General Information:
All Air Attack network traffic is initiated from the client computer (your computer) and should not need extra configuration. Most routers will remember traffic IP and port pairing and will work out of the box. In the advent where things are NOT working please let firewalls, home router filters and proxies enable traffic TO (Server computers, Our server complex) AND FROM (Client computer, Your computer) these IPs and ports (inclusive)

Quick question...
On the router setup it's asking for my IP address. I went to myip.com and got my addy, but it's only allowing me two characters on the Belkin site!?! What am I supposed to put in there and how do I find it?
And also, which port am I putting the AA ports in? Both? If not, which one and what do I put in the other?
Sorry, and thanks so much again.

Okay, I got it to take the first two, but the game traffic one is still giving me fits. It keeps saying that the port is invalid. I've re-checked the port numbers against what is in the FAQ and they are the same. I'm guessing that some of the numbers might be off. I'm putting 1024 - 65535 in the inbound port area and 50000 - 51024 in the private port area. Should these be switched?

I really hate to keep being a bother, but neither way worked. It just keeps telling me that the "port is invalid". Anything you can think of that I might be doing wrong?

The only other way around it, is to maybe turn the firewall off in your router. You already have Windows firewall and Avast,so your protected there.
I'm not sure why the port would be invalid...I'm checking on it...
