This has been discussed previously but not acted on at this stage. I think we need to look at pruning the forums and keeping the DB running smoothly without any hiccups. I do regular maintenance weekly to keep the tables optimized as best as possible

From memory we decided that 90 days would be an adequate time for any members/visitors to go back to read past threads. With a new beginning happening soon we need to get rid of some of the old rubbish, refresh the forums and bring some life back into this area.

Of course there will be threads we need to keep and some we do not want to prune at all due to their importance, so I propose we take a look at what we do and dont need.

This isnt a big task and really we just need to see what we need to keep over 90 days. I will come prepared with my list and hope others do as well so we can get this tidied up.

Lets put it this way...If I went and cleared them out I am sure someone would be carrying on about," oh what happened to his item from 6 months back", so in order for me to keep them, in an orderly fashion, I am requesting that members look over the forums and let me know what they wish to keep and the rest I will prune.

Most other forums I know of just archive old posts. The posts on this forum are just text and require minimal disk space. Surely there is space for them?

btw, does this have anything to do with the current slowness of the forums?

For me:
I enter the site as at usaac.us/ 

The 'forums' are not slow for me.. but.. the 'site' takes a long time to load up.. the hour glass sure will sit a spin for far too long. This has been going on for several weeks. Once the 'site' loads up.. its not bad at all for response time.

If you link to the forums direct .. it could appear that the 'forums' are slow and dragging on initial load up.

It seems.. that all the BoD has access to the "holding pen". Other than records in the Hall of Records why can't you simply move those older posts in that room.. then start purging at 180 days old?

Unless it is documentation.. I would think 180 old is ancient and probably does not apply anymore anyway.. or is simply "old news".

Fire does not like keeping forum topics for 100 years, neither do I. Somethings have just run their course. Subjective I know. Some people think a 'forum' should keep everything from day one, personally I don't' agree with that line of thinking.

Site is not slow for me either way I get to the forums.

The loading does kind of drag a long for me also, but I'm in the same region as Tbar.

Loads slower than USAAC for me in Argentina

Both from my home connection and a hospital connection which I am using at the moment it is taking about 30 seconds to load the front page and a further 30 seconds to load the forums.

It takes about 10 seconds to reach the BBC site.
