Now would be the right time for the front page to have a 'congrats' for the MML-LTS .. right in that center box.. Leave it there for a week or so.. then move it to the right where the SNL image is.

Now would be the right time to replace the following image.. with a proper image.

Proper Image??
At one time I had the P51 as you see on the above image  set up in three sizes. The largest size showed the 1st USAAC on the base.. with Warships running down the side of the air plane, the 2nd and 3rd sizes were a little bit different in that they appeared similar to the image above as smaller sizes .. you cant read the 'winning squad name' such as Warships.

AT one time I had what I feel was the perfect set up for these images.. an award page as well as a 'USAAC Trophy Case' .. ..

It would have been nice to address this all before the LTS came to and end and had it all prepared. As it is now.. I think we should start up a committee to get us an Image person that can set us up a template to use for LTS and any other League event we might hold..

In the future I think we should put the 'awards' image or any trophy case entries in the hands or the League Manager .. make this part of the responsibility of that appointed person.

On the same subject line .. and purely my opinion..the USAAC should only feature an image/trophy for USAAC events. Other events/League winners etc are deserving of some type of notice on our front page.. but only USAAC League events in a 'feature' area such as we have now. At a past BoD meeting this was agreed, but it might be nice to confirm this or bring it up for discussion again.

FireStorm took my original image .. modified it for the above presentation. I would suggest, if he's willing, that FireStorm make an image for LTS-Warships to replace the current one as a temporary quick solution. Then I would suggest that the USAAC find a graphics person that can work with us for a little while to develop a .psd file so in the future anyone of us with a 'little' photo shop experience can fix up nice trophy's.

AS a BoD project.. I can fix up a "outline' type of webpage for what I perceive as the 'trophy case' were we would list all these past events and honor the winners properly.. as well as keeping "memories". By the way.. this is one of the topics on the Web Committee's list of things to present to the BoD. Don't get your panties in a wad over the word "committee" .. , a committee can be very affective when concentrating on one area :)  Once a "outline" page is done.. it can be handed over to FireStorm who can install that page with USAAC standards, colors, etc for a great presentation and feature area of the USAAC. We are a progressive community :)

I can do something temporary for the time being just for recognition but I agree we do need to have a decent trophy for USAAC events. I'll do that change today.

Earlier I posted a concept I had in mind which could perhaps have been turned into something worth while by a graphics person but Fire thought it needed a dark background.

How about this...I know it's not very professional but I'm just trying to get an idea over. I like the simplicity of crystal and I thought it would be appropriate to have the USMC emblem included.

That is very good A, but..

We would need that image in a couple of different sizes. Try that same image at 150x150 and and 150x200 ...see what they look like. I suspect you are not going to like the results., but try it, one never knows. All the black area I think needs to be transparent.

There is nothing that says all the Trophy's the USAAC gives out need to be one design basic, but I think the P51 is really important in the image... the P51 is the USAAC in my mind.

Off Topic: How would you like to form up a graphic team for USAAC?

I have an outline page for this 'trophy' area.. I'll set it up for you all right after Christmas.

You are probably right Tbar. It wasn't false modesty that made me say it needed a professional to come up with a finished article. I'm just suggesting concepts that a graphics person might be able to go with.

I understand the liking for the P51 in relation to USAAC. It is the best known symbol of US air power in the second world war. Our friend Marine, however was respected by all and this particular event was embraced by the entire international community. When I envisaged the USMC emblem as part of the design it was more to represent John, the marine than to signify any national flavor.

But, like I said, I'm not a graphics person and bow down to anyone with knowledge in that field. I'm only trying to come up with ideas and I'm sure there are folks with other notions. I know it has been left too late but it might have been nice to ask our entire community to submit ideas.

Veering a little from the subject but with the previous sentence in mind it occurs to me that, in general, we should be adding interest to our site by seeking more participation from the rank and file of our membership. Let them really feel that this is their home. It's a well known management concept that, to get everyone's wholehearted support, you have to make them feel that they are part of the decision making process.

You have just taken a step to be a graphics person :)  keep working at it. I also think that "USAAC" also needs to be in the image someplace.

ALL Other Folks:

We should have done this 'trophy' when the MML started.. then we would have a finished product by now.....

What would be nice .. is a 'graphics contest' to see what talents the members have .. and might put to work... I can follow this up if you all think this is a good idea. WE don't need to offer a prize for the winner of the contest .. all we have to do is offer the persons 'name in lights' for the best entry :) This will also accomplish some of what Aegle is alluding to about 'participation fro the rank and file... .

Hi Aegel,

I have to tell you I'm very impressed with your color rendition of the Crystal Trophy. I too was working on a trophy, but I have never finalized it.

I think that with the Marine Corp Emblem that should be sufficient to recognize the USA.

I do agree with the background color to be transparent so that where ever it is used it will allow it use the background color to allow it to conform to the website.

Gret Job!

I have made an initial attempt. These are all transparent but I have added the colour of the background so you can see it properly. I have a large and small size as you can see.

Any comments are most welcome as I'm not completely happy with it anyhow.

I like it. I have a preference for the one on the top.

I say open it up to a graphic 'challenge' or 'contest' to the public.

Comments on Fire's Graphic

Graphic should say clearly someplace "USAAC" .. its an important branding.

Image does not need anything from the 'marines' .. it needs to commemorate the person called "Marine". We should avoid US Emblems that are exacting so as not to start something we didn't intend to. If the person Marine can only be represented by the USMC emblem.. then so be it.

Other:
What I envisioned way back when.. is that the USAAC would present 'trophys' in graphic form that actully look like a trophy. So images etc that we talk about.. I think we should present the 'trophy' as well.. not just the plaque.

I will change the wording to say Marine instead of Marines...should be his memorial so maybe it should have been Marine's.

I'll do some changes today to this and upload again.

This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a "trophy" per say. Trophies can take any shape or form you like, its all about remembering the event rather than what the jewelery looks like.

This is not a memorial to USAAC. It is a memorial to John and the name he bore. The entire international community backed this project out of their respect for our fallen friend.

John was a marine, John was proud of being a marine, John called himself Marine. The league event was in John's memory and it is highly appropriate for it to bear the USMC emblem. He would love it.

Totally agree Aegle....this was the very reason we took off 'USAAC' from the menus because visitors already knew they were at the USAAC website.

Perhaps a bit more...

The trophy's would be picked up by the Squads website.. displayed there also. So it would be nice if the trophy contained a USAAC Branding.

A Trophy with a football mounted on the top says football (P51)
A Trophy with the words " Vicnce Lombardi Award" (MML)
A Trophy with a logo on it .. branded .. NFL (USAAC)

Something classy, but does say USAAC.. and does say what the event name is .. and does say AirPlane Combat WWII

.. and it would make a good contest :)
