Suggesting squad balancing rule change

Hi guys,
I notice several matches this season are ending with 10-0 scores already, and we have only played a few matches so far.
I think perhaps the no alt limit rule helps the better teams to finish off rounds even if they didn't have a great start. I remember last MML season when there was a 10k ft alt cap, we mostly met at the cap and was maybe more luck involved.
I prefer the current rules as its less restrictive in the air.
But it would be a shame if it disheartened any less experienced teams.
I suggest a rule that if you beat a team 5 rounds in a row (or maybe 6 to make it after a win), you then have to drop 1 player.
If the opponent wins one, then you get to play with the full team again.
If you win the next round straight back again, you have to drop player again, and so on.
This is something we do in practise seasons if things appear to be getting unbalanced.
(The rule would have to be thought about carefully to avoid teams intentionally dropping a round just so they got to keep the full team to give themselves the advantage, etc)
But what do you think of the idea of doing something like that?
Obviously this kind of change couldn't be made during the league, although since we play each other twice it could be introduced mid season, if people favoured something like this.

Here's a better idea Dave. All the really good teams or a Div 1 Teams fly in Hurricanes and the Div 2 teams (newer less experienced squad) use the plane of their choosing. Of course I'm just kidding.
Actually, I kinda like it the way it is. This gives me and our squad something to shoot for. We have our good days and we have our bad. Yesterday was a really bad day for us. What is takes is a little more skill and a lot of practice and consistency. We'll get there, but not at a disadvantage to others.
in addition, it's not that we haven't tried to recruit good pilots, we are always looking, but for some reason or another they have too much PRIDE to fly with a newly established squads.
So we will take our licks till its time for us to carry that big stick!

erm apologies but I was not particularly refering to the Tigers vs Ravens game, or Ravens in general.
I just know that playing friendly practise LTS, if one team is winning too often they usually drop a player to even things out a little, and wondered if something similar could work in a league game, particularly after the game is won.

It doesn't have to be a rule DD.
In the name of sportsmanship each squads C/O can call off the dogs so to speak. If you are winnning each round handily, then discreetly pull back; or one doesnt take off a round; or crash; or just not engage but be a target. All in the name of letting all enjoy the game.
In the Temple there have been many times when Gelp or Gari will alter the stratagy or call us all off to let the opposition get some alt or speed.
I guess I am just saying if you want to do "even" out the teams, you can do it on your own without it being a rule.
Cheers!!
BTW- I will remind you of this in a couple of weeks!! CC??

Hi Dave,
I was, in my humble opinion, just speaking for my squad. There were several teams that went 0 & 10 yesterday.
It is going to happen from time to time. Our time will come when we can jump on the big boys and take a few rounds. Laying off and not doing your best against any squad, is not helping them get any better.
If you want to even things out, why not have joint practices with these underachieving team and help show them the ropes. RAVENS hold a closed practice session on Tuesdays on Thursdays we sometimes hold and open practice so we can find some people to practice against. Last week we had the pleasure of having a few of the tigers show up 3 tigers and 5 ravens. At that it was still very tough. We enjoyed it a lot and it gave us hope that we might win a round or two in our match on Sunday.
Of course we lost one of our good pilots who split to another squad and we had another that couldn't show for the match. SO we went with what we had and made a fight out of it. Yeah we got beat bad. Still we were having fun. It's not always the winning for me. Sometimes it's the things we learn to turn hopefully the tables the next time around. I feel if you hold back, It's just not going to help us get better.

The game and challenge of battle against better teams and players is what its all about in my book. The adrenalin rush you can get from fighting against a better opponent is awesome. If a team wants to get better they can, all tools are available. experience really pays off in this game. Practice, practice, practice.

Vipor, I think Tigers have always played with sportsmanship in 2-squad and 4-squad matches.
But in LTS, you aren't actually allowed to hang back with 1 or 2 players because when the ref calls engage you are all supposed to be going in.
So the choice is do you take-off with the full team or not, which is a pretty big disadvantage in LTS style game. And the way the scoring is structured in LTS if you want league points you gotta play strongly all rounds.
Joker,
Well ok fair enough.
Was just an idea.
Tigers to have joint practises though. Recently with BBC and Thorn, but in the past we have tried with Ravens also, maybe we try again sometime.

Well kids I have to agree with gunfighter.
you can make a squad with all top notch pilots,
And they will be very hard to beat.
And of course they have that right..
The BBC is a mix of vets and rooks,If we can we let all of them fly.
Yes we would like to win all the time, but in the interest of new players
we take on new pilots and try to train them.
Weather we are the best isnt as important as having fun together
and keeping new players in the game.
We get better as the months go on and hopefully some day will be in the top division.
Until then we will practice and take our lumps..

Agreed. Didn't mean to imply that you didn't.

True, but no one makes you pull the trigger!! wink wink
So the choice is do you take-off with the full team or not, which is a pretty big disadvantage in LTS style game. And the way the scoring is structured in LTS if you want league points you gotta play strongly all rounds.
So if the scoring structure is that you need all the rounds, then what you originally proposed seems to contradict your statement now as eventually the sqd that keeps dropping pilots after each round won would lose a round.
What I was really trying to say is that you can make it closer in each round without changing the rules. Cheers mate..but in all honesty, no team sport is evenly matched from here to rugby to soccer to basketball to rowing....
Popgun and Gunfighter are correct. It is a competition! We can fly our best or have fun and let all participate! Main thing is to have fun!!

Good point about the scoring rex,i was wondering who was going to throw away point's to feel better about pounding a team,it is as the tin says a competition.Sometimes success can be a two edged sword in that if you keep winning easily you lose the challenge and fun of a hard fought match, then have to think up new rules or idea's to make it fun for yourselves again.Darkdave it's great to see you putting ideas forward and the above comment is about my experience with a team which at times were almost impossible to beat at our best, there will always be disparity between the established and the up and coming i think thats what makes this game so intresting.
May.
