Wow m8,you're dating yourself with this one, lol. But I can't say much, lol,I remember seeing this one when it was aired,I never missed Red,watched his show every week. I remember we all used to be huddled around our very large, tube powered, black and white TV each week with some homemade popcorn to watch The Red Skelton Show, lol, family time. He was an icon in the comedy world, one of the best. I was about 14-15 when this was aired and remember when they took prayer out of the schools. Before that, every morning we pledged to the flag and said our prayers before we started our daily lessons. Schools were much different back then, kids were more disciplined, learned more, teachers could hit you if you needed it,everyone dressed up for it and had well groomed short hair,no one talked back to their elders, and Mom's and Dad's backed them 100%. Schools today resemble a chaotic circus, kid's have it made now,but they don't learn much, lol, unless you call texting, learning, lol.
Flip Wilson was another great one but Red was tops, along with Jacky Gleason,Art Carney,Phylis Diller and many more. All in black and white, lol. Kids now days don't have a clue, they got it easy.

I am going to date myself here, when our b&w tv died my dad would break out the tube tester and we open the back up and checked every tube, every bad one and weak one my dad would send me to the grocery store to the tube rack there and get new ones, we would put em back in button up and fire up and watch Gunsnoke and Skelton!
Long ago and far away!
Every day I went to school we said the pledge, I dare you to find a school that does today, if so thats where I would want my kids to go, if I had any.

You both have touched on the crux of why our country is where it is today. How did this happen to our schools? Who is responsible for making it so? Hmmmm....
Although you both left God out of your reply except for Bonz speaking of saying prayers before class commenced daily.
Our country was founded on freedom of religion and a belief in one God and we rose to the top because of our founding fathers wrote a darn good Constitution. (IMO)
When did we noticeably start our demise? I would say you cannot pinpoint it but taking prayer & God out of schools, removing God from the courthouses and taking God out of the school books would be a good place to start to look on how our blessings as a country faded somewhat.
Is "In God We Trust" still on our money?
This really coinsides with the thread about religion and my post there.
To get back on topic, I loved all those comdians mentioned and lets not forgt the other Red...Redd Foxx

and that might be the answer. "Freedom of religion"= The freedom to choose any religion one chooses to believe in. "A belief in one God"= Believing that there is
only 1 God
. You could be on to something Vipor. Basically our country was founded and lives on using "Freedom" as the basis for all. That same freedom contradicted the part "A belief in one God" so they had to remove it from anywhere they could. Although I haven't seen much money lately,I still think "In God we Trust" is still on it but it doesn't say "In One God we Trust" so I think that is why it is still on the ole mighty buck. So I think that we,or should I say "Our founding fathers" are the ones that started the ball rolling in multiple directions.
"Freedom" is the real culprit in this and the religion discussion. If Americans never had the choice of what religion they could believe in,If foreigner's never had the freedom to come to this country so freely and we truely lived by that quote things would be much different today. But then it wouldn't be a country based on "Freedom". It might have turned out to be a dictatorship in the name of "One God". They took God out of the picture many years ago and have been whittling away at our freedom's ever since and we are heading down that dictatorship road slowly but surely.
One of our ways to cope with this is thru our great comedians as they add humor to our shared problems in our country. And maybe they are the reason we all haven't started marching to the White House sporting clubs, torches and pitch forks, lol. You gotta laugh.

Having grown up when I did, I saw prayer disappear, thanks to the ACLU and Athiest, but the pledge was always there, with God in it.
I still pray, in my own way to God.
Now something I am against is this movement toward Creationism, this does not belong in our schools, it belong in Churches(Radical ones I might add!)
Some of the greatest scientist were men of the cloth, many were shunned for their ideas, but they have been proven and justified.
Now if you want to view one of the epicenters of "Creationism" go to Eureka Springs Arkansas and vist the "Great Passion Play" they have a museum there that says the world is only just a little over 2000 years old, hell the bible goes back farther than that!
I have found over the years some of these radical churches are not there to spread the word, they are in it for the bucks!
Some actualy do Gods work and I have a deep respect for them and some are scams!
I am sure I have stepped on some toes here, but not only do we have freedom of religon, we also have free speech.
My 2 pence
